Youth at Grace!
Hello To You! Yes, You There…
We’ve had a vibrant, fun and meaningful youth ministry here at Grace Church for over 15 years, and we are still here…listening, adapting, companioning and straight up goofing off with young people who bring their big questions and their desire to belong. You can be someone with a well-practiced faith, or someone who has never tried anything church-y in your life, and we will have a space in the circle for you here!
“The opposite of faith is not doubt, but certainty. Certainty is missing the point entirely. Faith includes noticing the mess, the emptiness and discomfort, and letting it be there until some light returns.”
–Bay Area Spiritual Writer, Annie Lamott
YOUTH GROUP, IT’S DOWNSTAIRS.
Sundays at 10 am!
In addition to our regular Sunday mornings, we plan and commit to a Service Immersion Experience every June. In years past we’ve traveled to: New Mexico, New Orleans, Los Angeles, New York, Huston, Birmingham, Alaska, Colorado, and internationally to Guatemala, Haiti and Taize, France with a pit stop in Paris! We’ve served, explored, listened, loved, prayed, laughed and learned so much about ourselves, others and God on these trips. It is impossible to say too much about how transformative and meaningful these experiences have been for countless young people, and we intend to keep this a central part of our program for Youth at Grace.
To quote the Anglican bishop and poet Rowan Williams, we believe that “the purpose of the Church is to form people into the kinds of people who can receive the gifts God wants to give.” Developing an open heart to the mystery of who God might be, and the curiosity to seek God in all things, is something we support at every step in a young person’s exploration of faith. We are looking forward to making our circle ever wider for anyone who might be interested in checking things out.
Our Youth Group is open to middle school and high school students! Sarah Christopher, our Associate Pastor, is a mother of four teens/young adults and a former middle school and high school teacher, as well as a college campus minister, with over 25 years of experience as a spiritual guide to youth and young adults. She is well prepared to see each student who comes to Grace, to listen and to respond with a sense of humor and a non-judgmental approach to whoever comes into our circle.
