Grace Episcopal Church in St. Helena, California, the heart of Napa Valley’s wine country, is a vibrant congregation with a strong musical tradition.  On the retirement of our Music/Choir Director of 45 years, Mr. Craig Bond, we seek a Music Director to lead Grace into the next generation of musical excellence.  At Grace we value tradition while also enjoying contemporary expressions of faith. Our worship is reverent, contemplative, and joyful. We seek a professional who is well versed in a variety of musical genres to direct our volunteer choir during the program year and accompany Sunday worship year-round (currently instrumental at 8AM, hymnody at 10AM). The successful candidate will be familiar with the broad tradition of church music and the Episcopal liturgical tradition, a gifted organist and choral director, self-motivated and able to work collaboratively under the supervision of the Rector to create beautiful and meaningful worship experiences. Grace’s instruments are an Allen digital organ,  two “baby grand” pianos (Baldwin and Steinway), as well as a Steinway upright for rehearsal.

This is a part-time, salaried position averaging about 8-10 hours per week, including Sundays and high holy days, and one other day per week for rehearsals and meetings as needed. Salary commensurate with experience, between $18,000-$22,000 annually.  The Music Director has first right of refusal over accompanying weddings/funerals, which are compensated separately.  To apply, please send a resume and cover letter and a few recorded examples of your work to [email protected].
