Grace‘s beautiful heritage oak dropped a large limb on the patio several weeks ago. We are incredibly grateful to Pastor Fermin of Puerta Abierta, who noticed early Sunday morning and mobilized his members to clear the patio before our 8 AM Sunday worship. This phenomenon, known as “summer limb drop,” is natural for Valley Oaks in hot weather. Arborist Joe Borden of Britton tree service who has cared for our oak for 25 years recently examined the tree and assures us that at about 200 years old, it is a strong, middle-aged tree with no sign of decay or disease. We will mitigate summer limb drop with an extra heavy biennial pruning for which it is due and deep watering during the dry months. The tree will also be inoculated against Mediterranean Oak bore which is in the valley. With continued care our beloved oak tree should see the next 150 years of Grace‘s history unfold!
